Mobile native, artist Shelby Jones' classic style of realism shows in his, almost historic
landscapes. He specializes in oil and also is very good at drawing. His background in photography has helped him
have the "eye of an artist" as he is always looking for subject matter. He carries his camera with him everywhere
and is always looking for something old and unique to photograph and paint. He has been able to achieve in his paintings
a wonderful third dimension. Shelby can also paint almost any subject matter from animals, portraits to florals.
Jones started drawing at an early age and has been painting seriously for about
eight years. Shelby attended Cental High School and also has attended several classes in art and darkroom photography
at the University of South Alabama. He worked and retired as a display manager and store photographer for J.C. Pennyand
Sears department stores.
Artist Don Reber was Jones' inspiration to paint because of his ralistic shrimp
boats and landscapes. His inpiration is also derived from Joe Michelle's work and technique. For many years, he
has been taking lessons from realist artist Joan Daugherty at Daughery's Gallery in Mobile, AL.
